• Birth Photography: $500

We’ll work together to envision what your birth experience will be like. I’ll gather important details about your birth plan, over on my consent form.

After you have completed your consent form, we will thoroughly discuss your pregnancy and birth history.

We’ll keep in touch throughout your pregnancy, and when you’re ready to invite me to this little one’s birthday party, give me a call! Day or night, I’ll be by your side and cheering you on, with optional doula support for pain management tools & techniques.

  • Birth Doula: $250 Student Rate

As your Doula, I am the protector of your peace, comfort, and intuition. I’ve been trained by Naolí Vinaver & multiple Utah Birth Suites midwives in a variety of laboring positions, massage, and rebozo techniques that can help you ride out your contractions, help baby move into optimal position, and empower you to have the birth you deserve. I am offering my services at a steeply discounted rate for the first 5 doula clients to sign up.

Together we will discuss your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum history. We will explore your ideal birth preferences, your needs & wishes, and how I can support you if circumstances arise that necessitate interventions or changes in your plan.

  • Tips: Community Fund

Wanting to give me a tip? I’d like to pay it forward instead, to help make this service accessible to other parents in my local community, who might not be able to justify hiring a photographer to capture this life-changing moment. Donations of any amount are very welcome and appreciated, and you help me support organizations working to reduce maternal mortality.

When a parent whose birth was covered (in part or in full) by your community fund contribution, you’ll receive a hand-written thank you note + a photo print from their birth after they deliver, if you’ll provide me a mailing address.

JORDAN TOMKINSON
Birth Photographer - Doula - Phase 2 Student Midwife

I’m so excited to be part of your birth team! While this page is primarily my birth photography portfolio and blog, I am also a doula, a Phase 2 Student Midwife and Birth Assistant with Utah Birth Suites, a Certified Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced Provider, and a Certified Victim Advocate through the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

When I’m not behind the camera, I keep myself busy with my husband Chris, our 3 awesome kids, and 3 cats. In my downtime, I enjoy knitting, crochet, drawing, painting, collecting my favorite albums on vinyl, running Dungeons & Dragons one-shots for friends, getting about 20 hugs a day from my youngest, hanging out online with my husband’s Twitch stream community, cackling together at TikToks after the kids go to bed, and taking our kids on spontaneous overnight adventure trips.

My Birth Toolkit

I bring a doula bag with me to every birth, and it includes a range of effective tools that many of us student midwives and doulas have come to love. This includes:

  • a rebozo (pictured: a large traditional woven Mexican scarf) which is great for swaying with your body, supporting your belly, tug-of-war if you have an epidural and are having a hard time pushing, even changing baby’s position, and shaking tension out of your back, hips, and legs. I have a full album displaying some of these rebozo techniques in my portfolio!

  • a massage gun, which can relieve tension and distract your brain from contractions, provide comfort and reinvigorate your birth team for those long births where we’ve all been on our feet for hours on end, and comes with multiple attachment heads for a variety of sensations to target specific needs.

  • wood combs to squeeze in your hands, in what we call the “gate control” technique - your nervous system can only process so much sensory input at one time, and by squeezing the rounded points of these combs into the Laogong acupressure point in the palm of your hand, you can disrupt some of your pain signals, which may be effective to ride through particularly intense contractions.

  • battery powered candles and a galaxy lamp - warm candlelight has been proven to stimulate your natural oxytocin production, while harsh bright lights are less relaxing and can be a hindrance to labor progression. Cozy lighting allows you to more easily slip into the liminal space of birth.

Do you cope well with pain? How would you describe your pain tolerance? Is an unmedicated birth important to you? What coping techniques work for you? Are you planning to bring any tools or utilize specific techniques during your labor?

Pictured: At Naolí Vinaver’s rebozo workshop, midwives and doulas gathered to learn about what a powerful tool the traditional Mexican rebozo is to support mothers through pregnancy and birth. Karely gently rocks Dani’s hips, while she melts into Isabelle’s arms. Look at the bliss on Dani’s face!

What’s In My Camera Bag

What I bring to a shoot depends greatly on where we’ll be photographing at, and how much my back hurts on any given day, but generally I roll up to a session with:

  • my MVP combo for compact birth spaces: Sony a7R V + 24mm f/1.4GM

  • my tried and true for fun portraits with friends: Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Series II

  • my just-in-case: Rokinon 50mm f/1.4 Series II

  • my second camera body: Sony a7R II

If my back isn’t killing me and I’ve got time to grab some extra gear, I’ll also bring my Manfrotto mini tripod and phone grip for sidelines videos at births, some rugged mini spotlights, and rarely, my Godox V1S flash.

DEPOSIT & REFUND POLICY

80% of your payment is a non-refundable deposit to book my services. In return, I put in many hours of work to get to know you, extensively discuss your birth plan and wishes, document our conversations for future reference, provide on-call support and education you through your pregnancy, and adjust my lifestyle for weeks at a time to be ready at a moment’s notice as your delivery approaches.

To keep my schedule manageable and prevent myself from accruing a significant backlog to edit, I only accept 3 clients per month. This means the sustainability of my business is heavily reliant on clients following through. I make myself unavailable to other clients so I am on call for you - whether I attend your birth or not, my lifestyle is significantly impacted by being on call for you 24/7 from 39 weeks to 42 weeks. I stay within an hour of home, missing out on family reunions out of town, concerts with my husband to see our favorite bands, date nights, making memories with my kids at Lagoon and Splash Summit, and staycations with my husband and kids. I plan out of state vacations around my on-call schedule, and I bring my camera bag with me on longer drives, which puts my gear at greater risk for damage and theft, and necessitates a specialty insurance policy for my camera gear, and I even tailor my sleep schedule to make sure that I’m available to hop in the car at a moment’s notice.

Thank you for your understanding!
