Add-on: USB Backup Drive
I highly encourage all of my birth clients to create multiple backups of not just the images from the finished album I provide, but all of your most precious photos on a regular basis! Physical backup drives are more affordable now than EVER before, and come in much smaller packages that make them easy to fit in a fire-proof safe. The cost of a 32GB drive, bubble mailers, and postage within my client range combined, is about $10. If you already have a USB drive sitting around on an old key ring somewhere, but need someone to walk you through downloading your images and creating your own backup, I will do that free of charge. (NOTE: Additional drives can be added at your request. If you’re buying them as gifts for grandparents/great-grandparents and would like to order multiples, they tend to get cheaper when you order 3-5 packs instead of single drives.)
While I often keep client album folders available for download on Google Drive, I don’t guarantee they will be available indefinitely. I’m currently paying for a premium subscription, but I may later decide to downgrade to a lower tier, or be more active in how often I organize and clear up space on my Google Drive.
Regardless of how long I store your finished album online, and regardless of whether you buy a backup from me or make your own, I do have a large external hard drive backing up all of my photography sessions and client work from the last few years, and I intend to store those for life. If 20 years goes by and you need me to send you some photos because your USB backup drive failed or your preferred cloud storage service went offline, please know I’d be more than happy to send them to you again.
